An American author, and prominent translator from the French; born in Suffolk, England, July 14, 1832. She is most widely known as a translator of Honore de Balzac's novels; and has written: "The Cruel Side of War" (1881); "Life of Balzac"; "The U. S. Sanitary Commission" (1863).

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
