(1770-1814), known as "Copenhagen Jackson," succeeded Erskine as Minister Plenipotentiary to the United States, when the conflict between the British ship " Leopard " and the U. S. " Chesapeake " was in dispute. He returned in 1811, his character not having been such as to promote mutual accommodation of differences.
