A Swiss philologist and traveler, born at Stein, Appenzell, June 25, 1806; died at Munich, Jan. 21, 1877. He wrote: "A Pleasure Trip to the Land of the Morning" (1839); "Bethlehem in Palestine" (1849); "Third Journey to Palestine" (1859); "Nazareth in Palestine" (1868).
