An American artist and writer on art; born in Bucks County, Pa., Feb. 22, 1778; died in Philadelphia, Oct. 3, 1860. He was a renowned portrait painter, and the author of "Notes on Italy" (1831); "Portfolio of an Artist" (1839); "Graphics" (1845).
