founded in Philadelphia December 2, 1742, by William Bradford 3d. This journal divided the field with the Pennsylvania Gazette until the British occupation of Philadelphia, when it was suspended for a period, but was afterward revived. The Journal made a successful venture as a semi-weekly in 1788. It was discontinued in 1797, and gave place to the Daily American, a daily newspaper.
