born in England about 1565, was one of the founders of Jamestown, VA., in 1606. In 1608 he brought settlers and supplies to the colonists from England and returned with a cargo of yellow mica, thinking it was gold. He again came over in 1610 with Lord Delaware. He returned to England in 1612. He wrote "Discoveries in America."
