A syndrome of cutaneous changes associated with sweat retention and extravasation of sweat at different levels in the skin. Miliaria rubra, or prickly heat, results from apocrine duct obstruction. [Latin] An acute inflammatory disease of the sweat-glands, due to the excessive sweating, marked by the development of numerous small, bright-red papules (M. papulosa, or prickly heat) or of small vesicles (M. vesiculosa, M. rubra), accompanied by itching, tingling, and burning of the skin. M. alba, vesicular m. when the contents of the vesicles have become white and opaque. Treatment: dusting-powders, carbolic acid, menthol. M. crystallina, sudamina.
