(1743-1802), secured the insertion of the clause "all men are born free and equal" in the Massachusetts bill of rights. He was a member of the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1783. He was a Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals from 1782 to 1789, and U.S. District Judge from 1789.

(1769-1840), was a supporter of the Federalist party and a zealous opponent of the War of 1812. He published many political pamphlets, among them an "Inquiry into the Subject of the ‘Chesapeake'" and "Mr. Madison's War."
