An Austrian poet and descriptive writer; born near Krems, March 13, 1820; died in Vienna, Aug. 20, 1887. He was connected with several prominent periodicals, and also wrote: "Poems" (1847); "A Marshal of France" (1857), a tragedy; "Springtime Evenings in Salamanca" (3d ed. 1880); several novels; and a record of travel called "My Sundays" (2d ed. 1880).
