It may proceed from the kidneys, Nephroemorrhagia, bladder, or urethra. The essential symptoms are :-Blood, evacuated by the urethra; preceded by pain in the region of the bladder or kidneys, and accompanied by faintness. Whencesoever it proceeds, haematuria usually takes place by exhalation. Rupture of vessels is by no means common in the mucous membranes. Active haematuria requires general or local blood-letting; diluent and cooling drinks; absolute rest; and the horizontal posture. The chronic kind is more troublesome. It requires acidulated or aluminous drinks; chalybeates and tonics in general. When haematuria is excessive, cold injections may be thrown into the rectum or into the vagina of women, and topical applications be made to the perinaeum.
