A German litterateur; born at Glatz in Silesia, April 19, 1774; died at Weimar, Dec. 19, 1845. The most important of his publications is a "Greek-German Dictionary-Manual" (1802-4). His close association with Goethe in Weimar, where he was for some time the instructor of Goethe's son, gave him a poetic bent, and he published "Leaves and Flowers" (1816), under the pseudonym of "Sylvio Romano"; and under his own name, "Poems" (1826). He also brought out "Correspondence between Goethe and Zelter" (1833).
