An American naturalist and miscellaneous writer; born at Namur, Belgium, in 1845. He graduated at Liege in 1864, and became a physician; but later abandoned the practice of medicine, and devoted himself to the study of natural history. He resides in Tennessee. His works include: "Summer-Land Sketches" (1880); "Physical Education" (1882); "The Secret of the East; or, The Origin of the Christian Religion" (1883); "Days and Nights in the Tropics" (1887). He died in 1906.
