A collection of ancient statues discovered on the island of Egina, supposed to have originally decorated the temple in that island sacred to Pallas Athene. They are before the age of Phidias, so, although true to nature generally, their faces are characterized by that forced smile which gives an unpleasant expression to the earlier Greek sculptures. They are the most remarkable ornaments of the Glyptothek of Munich.
