A French essayist; born at Paris in 1780; died in 1821. She was the mother of Charles de Remusat, and companion to the Empress Josephine. She wrote an "Essay on the Education of Women" (1824). Her "Memoirs" are very celebrated. They form the substance of her diary, destroyed by fire and rewritten by her from memory. They are very unfriendly to Napoleon.
