Born about 1590, was a chief of the Pemaquid Indians in Maine. He learned English from the colonists of Monhegan Island, sent out by Sir Ferdinando Gorges. Soon after the landing of the Pilgrims he entered Plymouth, saying, "Welcome, Englishmen." He brought Squanto, who had visited England, to act as interpreter, and manifested a friendly interest toward the colonists.
