An Italian novelist; born at Florence, 1839. His stories have attained great popularity; among them: "Prof. Romualdo" (1878); "Smiles and Tears" (1882); "Reminiscences and Fancies" (1886); "The Return of Aretusa" (1901). He is one of the acknowledged Italian masters of the "novel of the inner life" (romano intimo).
