A compound resulting from the action of chlorine on hydrate of lime. Chloride of lime is a most valuable disinfecting agent, (see Disinfection,) when dissolved in the proportion of one pound to six gallons of water. It has likewise been employed both internally and externally in various diseases, as in scrofula, foetor oris, foul ulcers, &c. &c.
