An Italian poet and journalist; born near Asti, Piedmont, in 1802; died May 26, 1866. He wrote several dramas and comedies: "Salvator Rosa"; "Return of the Proscript"; "My Cousin"; "All for the Best": they met with much popular favor. By a volume of patriotic "Songs", he obtained from his countrymen the title "Piedmontese Beranger". His journal, Voce della Liberta, was a powerful instrument in bringing about the unification of Italy. He published two volumes of "Memoirs".
