[L.] reasoning is from the former, i.e. the known fact, principle, law, intuitive conception, to the result; so from knowledge of astronomy an eclipse is predicted. A posteriori, from the latter fact or event, etc., we reason back to its cause ; as from the fact of an eclipse, to its cause and explanation.
